Kitchen at Completion |
The desperate need for space and light was the main motive for this kitchen remodel. The separation of the kitchen, breakfast and dining rooms gave a disjointed sense of connection and compatibility, while small openings limited circulation and shunned natural light. My goals were to allow more freedom of movement between the spaces while making more light available to the rooms. This was achieved by opening up adjacent spaces to each other which affords us a more comfortable flow of space, volume and light. By vaulting the ceiling in the kitchen and taking in the courtyard while adding clear, efficient Velux roof windows, we introduce wonderful amounts of natural light to be shared by the spaces and balance the ambiance of the setting. Lightly stained cabinets and accented tile floors add a sense of warm comfort, while the stainless steel appliances worked to our advantage by letting the new light bounce around the room.
